Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since March of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He saved 4 early chances in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
